Careers at Maupin, Cox & LeGoy

I. Practice Area Needs.

1. Estate Planning Attorneys. The firm is actively seeking attorneys to join the firm in its ultra-high-net-worth Business and Planning Practice Group, which is led by Michaelle Rafferty. The demand for Nevada legal services in this field, coupled with the firm’s deep technical sophistication with respect to all matters involving complex estate planning and its reputation for providing excellent professional legal services, have enabled the firm to now proudly provide legal services to countless clients, many of whom are known nationally and/or worldwide. Work in this practice area would include, but would not be limited to, setting up private family trust companies, drafting trusts and other instruments, conducting trust decanting and reformation planning, researching technical tax and estate planning issues, and working collaboratively with the firm’s accomplished and experienced practitioners in other areas (e.g., real estate, M&A, and litigation) to provide excellent service to its clientele.

Additionally, the firm is actively seeking experienced practitioners to provide estate planning services to a wide range of clients.

2. Business Transaction Attorneys. The firm is actively seeking to hire attorneys to join the firm in its Business Transactions Practice Group, which is led by Kurt Hunsberger. Uniquely, the firm has significant demand for legal services related to business sales, having closed hundreds of millions of dollars in mergers and acquisitions transactions over the past 18 months alone. In addition to working on these exciting transactions, attorneys in the firm’s Business Transactions Practice Group also work on complex corporate and partnership formations, restructurings, corporate reorganizations, and related entity work. An attorney joining the firm in this practice group would work as part of a team on several different projects. Such work would include, but would not be limited to, drafting sophisticated partnership/operating agreements, participating in all aspects of high-octane business sales, conducting buy-side diligence, researching complex tax and corporate issues, negotiating with counterpart counsel, and working collaboratively with the firm’s accomplished and experienced practitioners in other areas (e.g., real estate, estate planning, and litigation) to provide excellent service to its clientele.

3. Litigation and Administrative Law Attorneys. The firm is actively seeking to hire civil litigation and administrative law attorneys to work in one or more of the following practice areas: Business & Civil LitigationMining Law & LitigationConstruction Law & LitigationEmployment & Labor Law; and Education Law. Litigators would also work on cases involving disputes relating to estates and trusts, which is a fast-growing area of litigation. An attorney joining the firm as a litigator and/or administrative law attorney would draft motions, briefs, and related documents, conduct depositions, represent clients at mediations and arbitrations, attend various board meetings as counsel for various public and private bodies, and actively participate in court proceedings.

  4. General Civil Practice. The firm will accept applications from recent graduates who either want to have a broad civil practice or who have not yet determined their desired practice emphasis. Experienced attorneys who have a broad civil practice or who practice in areas that would fit the firm well are also encouraged to apply.

2026 and Later Graduates. Starting October 2024, Maupin, Cox & LeGoy is accepting applications for its 2025 Summer Associate Program. The Summer Associate Program will last approximately 10-12 weeks, during which time participants (who are paid employees) will have two mentors, will be assigned substantive legal work, and will have the opportunity to work alongside attorneys at the firm and attend client meetings, closing, depositions, hearings, oral arguments, estate-planning signings, and other legal events, along with several fun firm events.
